What is ZeTranslation?

You must be first time on this website and think what the hell it is for. Well, the short answer is that it's the most awesome online tool for translating! Translating what? See below!

How can it be used?

  • Localizing software.
  • Localizing website interface messages.
  • Localizing video games.
  • Translating subtitles.
  • Translating technical documentation.

Maybe anything else?

Why was it created?

If you are familiar with MediaWiki engine (the one that Wikipedia is written on) then you probably know that all interface labels and messages are being localized in all languages online - they use a website called Translatewiki. In fact every developer can use that service to translate his project in any language. The only problem is that they require your project to be open source. And what if my project is commercial? I still need it to be localized to as many languages as possible. That is why we are here!

The original purpose of this website was to create a Translatewiki clone but without limitations on project type - whether it is open source or not.

Why should I use it?

  • It's totally free of charge. Any registered user can contribute his translation.
  • It's online so you can work from any place around the world.
  • It's convenitent if you have a group of translators working together because you can immediately see the changes made by other translators.
  • It's helpful because if you don't know how to translate a certain phrase you will see suggestions from online translators.
  • It's visual because you can see the automatic statistics of your project showing translation progress (completion percentage, how many phrases are translated and how many are left).
  • It's a translation memory (TM). If you have translated a certain phrase earlier the system will show it to you the next time you meet the same phrase.
  • It's trackable because you can see all the changes made by any user.
  • It's secure because you can roll back any phrase to the previous translation if someone vandalized your work.
  • It's easy to export it to the file once the translation is complete.
  • It's sensitive to any changes you make in the original language. If you add new or modify existing phrases the system will inform the translators that the translation must be updated. No need to bother emailing the translators every time.

Wow this is totally awesome! How can I add my project here?

Excellent question! Right here.

Where do I start translating?

Simply register on ZeWiki (which is BTW another cool website) and use your login/password here. Yes, no need to register on these websites separately. You can do it once. That's it! Choose a project for translation and go for it.
